The Release Herd’s Annual Report

JUNE 2024 - JUNE 2025
Compiled by Peter Lenasalia

Throughout the year, the elephants were closely monitored using an integrated system consisting of GPS collar tracking, ground-based vehicle patrols, aerial surveillance, and direct field observations by a trained monitoring team and elephant guardians.

This multipronged approach provided valuable insights into the elephantsʼ post-release journey, specifically their movement patterns, habitat use, monthly health and body conditions, and social integration.

“Overall, we are pleased to report that the Release Herdʼs first year back in the wild went smoothly, and thanks to heavy rains, the calves were able to access diverse and plenty of fresh browse as well as sufficient water.”
