Reteti Keepers Receive Life-Saving First Aid Training

We are all buzzing from the recent CPR and first aid training that Reteti Elephant Sanctuary's keepers and foundation staff received!

The intrepid team from the non-profit Global Foundation for International Cardiac and Community Services, visited Reteti to provide healthcare and first aid training. During the training session, we learned how to perform CPR on adults and children, how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) to revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest, and even how to use tourniquets effectively to stop bleeding from an extremity.

The Global FICCS team consisted of Dr. Parag, Dr Nasrallah as well as Carhol Rowcar (Programs Director), Naomi Musila (Obstetrics and Gynecology Nurse) and Kim Cisneros (Emergency Medicine Nurse)

The value of first aid training cannot be overstated, especially when operating in remote locations like Namunyak Community Conservancy.

This training is particularly valuable for us as staff of Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, as we work in a remote location where medical help may be farther away. The whole team is now better equipped and confident in our ability to handle any emergencies that may arise in the sanctuary.

The Global Foundation for International Cardiac and Community Services (@globalficcs) strives to make a positive impact on communities by providing healthcare education, mentorship, and scholarships. To learn more about their incredible work, visit www.globalficcs.org.

We are also immensely grateful to Global FICCS and Drs. Nasrallah and Parag for donating a variety of medical equipment and drugs to our teams, including an AED, oximeter, portable ultrasound machine, tourniquets, and neck and pelvic braces.
